Fourteenth International Symposium on Hanzi Shufa Education Concludes with Resounding Success

The Fourteenth International Symposium on Hanzi Shufa (Chinese Calligraphy) Education was held on August 9–10, 2025, bringing together over 60 distinguished experts, scholars and educators in Chinese calligraphy from around the world for two days of rich academic exchange. The biennial event was organized by the American Society of Shufa Calligraphy Education (ASSCE), the largest Chinese calligraphy education organization in the United States, boasting more than 100 members dedicated to advancing the appreciation, research, and teaching of Chinese calligraphy worldwide.

This year’s symposium featured over presentations and keynote speeches, covering a wide range of topics, from the origins and evolution of Chinese characters to contemporary calligraphy theory and innovative pedagogy. The diversity and depth of the discussions reflected both the enduring cultural significance of Chinese calligraphy and the evolving approaches to its instruction in different educational contexts.

A highlight of the symposium was the inaugural International Calligraphy Curriculum Design Contest, which celebrated creativity and excellence in teaching. Thirteen educators from various countries were recognized for their outstanding course designs, setting a benchmark for innovative curriculum development in the field.

Participants praised the symposium for fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas, strengthening global networks, and inspiring new research and teaching initiatives. The ASSCE reaffirmed its mission to promote high-quality calligraphy education, bridge cultural understanding, and cultivate the next generation of calligraphy educators and enthusiasts.

With its combination of academic rigor, practical innovation, and international collaboration, the 2025 symposium once again underscored the central role of Hanzi Shufa education in preserving and sharing a treasured art form across the globe. The event was then reported by US-China Post, and other influential international media including Jinri Toutiao.
