At the invitation of Tuttle Publishing, ASSCE members including Bertrand Mao will perform shufa demos at the publisher’s booth (#1620). Mr. Mike Page, Digital Marketing Manager and Academic Sales Manager, Tuttle Publishing, calls this event a “wonderful opportunity for education and cultural understanding.”
Bertrand Mao is an accomplished artist and recognized master of calligraphy, a respected and renowned educator, gallery owner and author. He is founding member of the CEG (Calligraphy Education Group), which has eventually evolved into ASSCE today. He has been practicing Chinese calligraphy and painting for more than sixty years. A graduate of Georgetown Law School in 1965, he devoted his lifelong passion for China calligraphy and painting upon retirement to teaching these two arts at University of Maryland, American University, and Montgomery College in Rockville, MD. He is currently an artist-in-residence at the Metropolitan Center for the Visual Arts in Rockville, MD. He has demonstrated and lectured widely at universities, libraries, art museums, and government institutions in the greater Washington, D.C. area and across the country. He has exhibited his artwork in solo and group exhibitions in the United States, Taiwan, India, and China.
